On The Project So Far

Hello and happy new year, readers! Stephanie here, one of your co-contributors to the page! Before we resume our regular posting, I wanted to take the time to reflect on my experience over the past year with the Carroll Farm History project. Firstly- I cannot express how grateful I am to be able to share these photos collected so diligently by the incredible Lyndi McNulty, and her book Farming in Carroll County has provided us with invaluable information that without it, this project wouldn’t be possible! And of course, It’s been such a pleasure to work with Josh, his experience, connections, and sheer love of farm life have been so fun to witness and I can’t thank him enough for letting me come along for the ride.

Looking through all of our photos (stay tuned for some great ones coming up in future posts!), I’ve found I’ve gotten an even greater appreciation for this beautiful county, especially the men and women farmers who contribute so much. I’ve found my favorite photos to post are the ones of families smiling and having fun- little moments like that always remind me that the past is not as distant as we sometimes believe. These photos are worth way more than a thousand words- they’re our shared history!

Through this project and these photos, I’ve learned that German P.O.W worked on farms in Carroll County during WWII and so many more ins and outs of farm life I never would have known otherwise. If I had to list my favorite posts, I would have to say that our posts on the Bollinger Family and Baugher’s farm remain one of my favorites–Bollinger for how wonderfully warm the family photos are, and Baughers for remaining one of the best restaurants in Westminster to this day.

Through posting all these photos and looking through our wonderful archive, I feel like I’ve gotten to know these families and feel more connected to my home than ever. Look forward to even more fun stuff we have planned in 2023 as we develop this project, and thank you so much for your continued support!
